About Us – Sindhica Reforms Society
Empowering Vulnerable Communities and Preserving Natural Resources Since 1993
Sindhica Reforms Society (SRS) is a non-profit, nonsectarian, indigenous environmental organization based in Sindh, Pakistan. Since its inception in 1993, SRS has been at the forefront of environmental conservation, community empowerment, and humanitarian support. Accredited by the UN Environment Programme and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), SRS hosts the GEF CSO Global Secretariat and serves as the Regional Focal Point for the GEF CSO network in the South regions.
Our Mission
At SRS, we focus on enhancing the quality of life for vulnerable communities, while protecting natural resources. Our services include water, sanitation, hygiene, and environmental conservation with a special focus on safeguarding flora, fauna, and ecosystems. Our primary beneficiaries include women, children, minorities, Indigenous groups, forest communities, and urban slum residents, along with preserving critical natural habitats for birds and animals.
Key Initiatives
SRS has been a part of numerous successful interventions and projects that have gained national and international recognition. One of our most notable achievements is the development of Pakistan’s first Constructed Wetland Module for biological wastewater treatment and recycling in Shaheed Benazirabad. This pioneering initiative has been replicated nationwide, and SRS continues to provide technical support to organizations within Pakistan and globally.
We have also been actively involved in providing flood relief, conducting forest fire control training, and supporting sustainable livelihoods through our beekeeping programs. Our flood relief efforts extend to the most marginalized communities, including minorities and Indigenous groups affected by natural disasters.
Collaboration & Partnerships
Collaboration is central to our approach. We work closely with donors, government agencies, and civil society organizations to empower communities and ensure access to basic human rights. Our collaborative efforts extend to providing technical expertise in environmental conservation and humanitarian initiatives.
Our Founder
Muhammad Ameen Keryo, the visionary founder of Sindhica Reforms Society, has been a driving force behind SRS since its early days. A renowned environmentalist, social worker, and wastewater treatment expert, Mr. Keryo has dedicated his life to humanitarian causes and environmental sustainability. His work in introducing Pakistan’s first Constructed Wetland (Reed Bed) system for biological wastewater treatment has paved the way for sustainable solutions in the region.
With guidance from mentors like Dr. Roshan Raj Shrestha of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Keryo has expanded his impact beyond Pakistan, serving as a technical advisor on various international wastewater treatment projects. Despite challenges, including life threats from entrenched feudal systems, his unwavering commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities has established SRS as a national-level organization.
Our Vision for the Future
As we look ahead, Sindhica Reforms Society remains committed to continuing our mission of environmental conservation and community empowerment. Through our ongoing efforts, we aim to further expand our projects, ensuring sustainable development and the protection of natural resources for future generations.
