SRS celebrates Earth Day 2025 in Karachi with support from Earth Day Organization

Sindhica Reforms Society, a well-known environmental organization dedicated to social welfare and environmental reform in Sindh, celebrated Earth Day 2025 on 22 April, in Karachi through a meaningful series of indoor activities. The event was organized with the generous support of the Earth Day Organization, under the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet”,

With an aim to raise awareness about environmental challenges, especially the alarming increase in plastic pollution, the celebration focused on engaging the youth and local community members through visual, educational, earth day posters, and earth day quiz that sparked thoughtful discussions and inspired climate-conscious actions.

One of the key activities by Sindhica Reforms Society on Earth Day 2025 was a poster making session, where participants illustrated powerful messages about protecting nature, reducing plastic use, and promoting sustainability, encouraging visual engagement with the Earth Day theme and inspiring collective environmental responsibility.

Another engaging activity by Sindhica Reforms Society on Earth Day 2025 was Earth Day crafts, where children created eco-friendly items using recycled materials. This hands-on session encouraged creativity while teaching the importance of reusing waste, reducing pollution, and caring for the environment in everyday life.

During Earth Day 2025, Sindhica Reforms Society held a poster drawing session that invited children to express their environmental concerns and hopes through art. With themes like “Our Power, Our Planet”,” the colorful posters became a heartfelt reflection of young voices advocating for a cleaner, greener future.

Earth Day Origin

Earth day history dates back to April 22, 1970, in the United States, initiated by Senator Gaylord Nelson to raise public awareness about environmental issues like pollution, deforestation, and climate change. Over 20 million Americans participated in the first Earth Day, making it the largest civic event of its time.

The movement led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and landmark environmental laws. Since then, Earth Day has grown into a global movement, observed in over 190 countries each year. It unites people of all ages to take action for a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable planet.

The theme for Earth Day 2025 is “Our Power, Our Planet”, emphasizing the pivotal role of renewable energy in combating climate change and fostering a sustainable future. This theme underscores the collective responsibility of individuals, communities, and nations to harness clean energy sources, such as solar and wind, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate environmental degradation.

By advocating for a global transition to renewable energy, Earth Day 2025 aims to inspire action towards environmental preservation and resilience. The theme serves as a call to empower communities to adopt sustainable practices, invest in green technologies, and support policies that promote environmental stewardship.

In essence, “Our Power, Our Planet” encapsulates the idea that through collective effort and commitment to renewable energy, humanity can safeguard the planet for future generations.

Earth day activities by SRS

Unlike typical outdoor clean-up drives or tree planting in earth day 2024, this year’s event hosted by SRS in Karachi was entirely indoors, keeping in mind accessibility and focused interaction. The carefully curated activities were aimed at stimulating young minds and inspiring long-term behavior change.

🎨 Earth day poster drawing Competition: Creativity for a Cause

The event began with earth day drawing competition for schoolchildren from different areas of Karachi. The children were given the opportunity to express their understanding of the Earth, nature, pollution, and the harms of plastics through colorful drawings.

The theme “Our Power, Our Planet” was explained to the young participants in a simple way, and their responses in the form of artwork were both creative and deeply impactful. Drawings featured marine life trapped in plastic, Earth with a mask, and hopeful green futures.

Judges from the organization appreciated the talent and environmental awareness shown by the children. Winners were awarded certificates and eco-friendly gifts such as reusable water bottles, cloth bags, and plant saplings.

📽️ Environmental Awareness Video Screening

To further deepen the understanding of climate challenges, short environmental awareness videos were screened for all attendees. These included powerful clips from international Earth Day 2025 campaigns and educational animations highlighting:

  • The dangers of single-use plastics
  • The lifecycle of plastic waste
  • The importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling
  • Climate change and its visible impact across the globe

The videos were chosen to be age-appropriate and emotionally engaging, helping even younger viewers grasp complex global issues. Following the screenings, a short discussion was held where children and parents shared their thoughts and pledged to make small but consistent changes in their daily lives to protect the planet.

🗣️ Voices from the Event

Mr. Muhammad Ameen Keryo, CEO and Board Member of Sindhica Reforms Society, shared his thoughts:

“We chose indoor, awareness-based activities this year to focus on education and creativity. The young generation is our best hope in the fight against plastic pollution and climate change. We are grateful to Earth Day Organization for supporting this initiative and helping us be a part of a global movement.”

Teachers and parents also appreciated the initiative, noting that such awareness events play a critical role in shaping the mindset of future generations.

“Visual learning through drawing and videos is more effective than lectures. My child now reminds us to carry cloth bags when shopping!” said Ms. Fatima Shah, a parent in attendance.

🌱 Towards a Greener Future

Sindhica Reforms Society aims to continue its mission of promoting environmental awareness beyond Earth Day 2025. Plans are underway to introduce:

  • Eco-clubs in local schools
  • Monthly awareness sessions on recycling
  • Plastic-free awareness campaigns in low-income communities

This year’s Earth Day 2025 celebration in Karachi was a small yet powerful step toward building a community that respects the planet and recognizes its shared responsibility in preserving natural resources

Bottom-line

On Earth Day 2025, let us promise to protect our ecosystem—because without it, we cannot survive. The Earth will remain, but we may not. Plant trees, reduce pollution, and live sustainably. Together, let’s pledge to care for our planet before it’s too late—for ourselves and future generations.
